What Sapphire FUE actually involves
Sapphire FUE is a refinement of FUE rather than a separate surgery. Grafts are extracted from the donor area one at a time in exactly the same way, and the donor area heals in the same way.
What changes is how the recipient sites — the small openings the grafts are placed into — are made. They are created with blades made from sapphire instead of steel. Sapphire holds a very fine, sharp edge, which allows small, precise sites.
Small, cleanly made sites can be placed close together and at a consistent angle, which is what matters for a natural-looking hairline and for density. How closely grafts can be placed in your case still depends on your scalp and your donor supply, and that is assessed at consultation.
Who this is — and isn't — the right choice for
We would rather turn down an unsuitable case than sell a procedure that cannot deliver what you want.
A good fit if
- Hairline design, where the angle and spacing of sites show most
- Patients already suited to FUE who want this method of site creation
- Areas where grafts are being placed closely for density
Not the right call if
- Donor areas already harvested close to their practical limit
- Expectations of density that the donor supply cannot realistically deliver
How the procedure runs
No stage of this is a surprise on the day — here is the full sequence.
- 01
Assessment and design
Your donor area is assessed and the hairline design is agreed with you before anything begins.
- 02
Extraction
Follicular units are extracted individually from the donor area under local anaesthesia.
- 03
Sapphire site creation
Recipient sites are made with sapphire blades, at the angle and direction of your natural growth.
- 04
Implantation
Grafts are placed into the prepared sites, with a soft front line and denser coverage behind it.
What the period after treatment looks like
Including the stages most clinics gloss over. Exact timings vary between patients — yours are confirmed by the clinic before you go ahead.
Immediately after
The donor area is tender and small points form where units were taken. Aftercare instructions are given before you leave.
Early healing
Small crusts form in the treated area and settle with the washing routine the clinic gives you.
Shedding phase
Implanted hairs shed before regrowth begins — expected, and not a sign of failure.
Regrowth
Growth comes in gradually over the following months, on a timeline discussed at consultation.
Sapphire FUE questions patients ask
How is Sapphire FUE different from regular FUE?
Only in how the recipient sites are made — with sapphire blades rather than steel ones. Extraction, the grafts themselves and the way they grow are the same.
Does it change the donor area?
No. Extraction is the same as in FUE, so the donor area heals as scattered points in the same way.
Is it right for me?
That depends on your donor area, the area being treated and your goals. The technique is recommended at consultation, from your case.
