FUE Hair Transplant
Overview

What FUE Hair Transplant actually involves

Follicular Unit Extraction is the technique most of our hair transplant patients are assessed for. Rather than removing a strip of scalp, individual follicular units are extracted one at a time from a suitable donor area — usually the back and sides of the head, where hair is generally more resistant to pattern loss.

Because each unit is taken individually, the donor area heals as a scatter of tiny points rather than a single line. That is the reason most patients who wear their hair short prefer FUE.

The extracted units are then implanted into the areas of hair loss or thinning, following the angle and direction in which your own hair grows. How many grafts you need, and how the work is staged, is planned around your case rather than a standard package.

Candidacy

Who this is — and isn't — the right choice for

We would rather turn down an unsuitable case than sell a procedure that cannot deliver what you want.

A good fit if

  • Pattern hair loss with a donor area that can support the area being treated
  • Patients who wear their hair short and want to avoid a linear donor scar
  • Restoring a receding hairline, temples or thinning crown
  • Patients who want the treatment planned around their own hair loss pattern

Not the right call if

  • Hair loss that is still actively progressing and has not been assessed or stabilised
  • A donor area that cannot supply enough grafts for the coverage being asked for
  • Expectations of density that the donor supply cannot realistically deliver
Step by step

How the procedure runs

No stage of this is a surprise on the day — here is the full sequence.

  1. 01

    Assessment and design

Your hair loss pattern, scalp and donor area are assessed, the graft requirement is estimated, and the hairline design is agreed with you before anything begins.

  2. 02

    Donor preparation

The donor area is prepared and local anaesthesia is administered. You stay awake throughout the procedure.

  3. 03

    Graft extraction

Follicular units are extracted individually from the donor area and prepared for implantation.

  4. 04

    Recipient site creation

Sites are created in the treatment area at the angle and direction that match your natural growth pattern.

  5. 05

    Implantation

Grafts are placed to build a soft, natural-looking front line with denser coverage behind it.

Afterwards

What the period after treatment looks like

Including the stages most clinics gloss over. Exact timings vary between patients — yours are confirmed by the clinic before you go ahead.

  1. Immediately after

You are given aftercare instructions covering washing, sleeping position and activity. Some tenderness and swelling is normal.

  2. Early healing

Small crusts form in the treated area and the donor points close over. The clinic will confirm when and how to wash.

  3. Shedding phase

Transplanted hairs shed. This is expected and is not the same as losing the graft — the follicle remains and re-enters a growth phase.

  4. Regrowth

New growth comes in gradually and thickens over the following months. Growth rates vary between patients; your expected timeline is set at consultation.

FAQ

FUE Hair Transplant questions patients ask

Will there be a visible scar?

FUE leaves many tiny extraction points across the donor area rather than a single line. Once healed these are generally not noticeable at normal social distance, though very closely shaved styles can show slight marking.

How many grafts will I need?

It depends on the degree and pattern of your hair loss, your donor density, the area being treated and your goals. That number comes out of your consultation, not a phone estimate.

Do I have to shave my head?

That depends on the technique and treatment plan for your case. The clinic will confirm the shaving requirement for you before the procedure.
